Our story.

North End Baking Co. & Café has been providing Halifax with delicious baked goods, food services and catering since 1977 — first as Sunshine Catering, and later as Fireside Kitchen. In addition, we provide Prescott Group participants with training in food preparation, baking, cashiering, and other food service and kitchen responsibilities.

We are a fair-wage employer, staffed by people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Our kitchen is spearheaded by a Red Seal certified chef. In October 2021, we opened our café to provide Haligonians with satisfying and delicious gluten-free food.

Why gluten-free?

Recent studies have shown that people with Down syndrome may develop celiac disease or gluten sensitivity at higher rates than the general population. To provide the most inclusive training and employment opportunities possible, we are committed to operating a gluten-safe workspace.

Since 1962, Prescott Group has been helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) find friendship, community and success in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
